Young Man Blues for New Orleans

by E.Y.

You were so easy, big girl town—

So party-ready, with your

beads dangling down.

Flashing smoky skies

and that sidewalk dancing:

parasol pink and coffee brown.

But no seawalls could keep

your spoilers at bay.

Who drowned all your music

in a single day

And stole most of your jewels

along the way.

Wish I could hear your sweet song

just a little while;

and strut and sway bayou style

and still hold your hand

and watch you smile...
