To Hide Outside

Hurricane Katrina

by Retha Smit

Hiding fierce eyes from within the bold thunder's cries

Your dangerous presence never felt so dauntingly

Chills blow over the memories of you so hauntingly.

Have thou no remorse within the echoes of resistance

Do thou hunger to wipe the human from existence?

Sinners we all are, but is the sin greater than your war.

Showing us our own insignificance, in your lightning glance

The terror you harbor in the whirling destruction dance

Have the warlock angels no mercy within your path?

Their consuming winged darkness, sweltering wrath

Given to be taken, born within the womb to awaken.

Sheltered from the burning ashes of the truth outside

Protected with strong belief, just a failure against the tide

As you wage you're tormenting demons against the fragile trust

Crumbling the moral fibre, destroying prayers with each thrust

Slated faces, fumbling hands, sparkles eyes, cold shiver

Dreamless nights, forgotten happiness, empty lights

Pain filled shattered hopes, drained strength of ironical plights

Given to be taken, born within the womb to awaken.

I sit sheltered from the burning ashes of the truth outside
