Naked Ladies

by Steve Toth

Where we live there's

a wild flower

called a naked lady

It's a white bulb that lies

hidden under the surface

until late summer

when it comes to life

pushing up a dark red stem

that culminates in a pink flower

but with no leaves

that's why it's naked

We met a woman

who told us

that when she first moved here

she asked directions

from some people on the sidewalk

They told her to keep going

the way she was

until she came to the house

with all the naked ladies

in the front yard

& then turn left

She thought

naked ladies in the front yard?

What kind of town is this?
