How to Love

by Connie Marcum Wong

No matter how much

pain you cause me

I can not hate you.

I only hate your

thoughtless actions.

Love transcends

karmic retribution.

It changes you,

makes you humble

in its healing light.

When you truly love

you are able to turn

your judgment inward,

to seek answers from within.

It is the whole of one's soul

that must be viewed with

loving, ambiguous eyes.

How do you keep that spark alive

after the passing of many years?

You kindle it with understanding.
