Beautiful Woman

by Pam H. Murray

Movement captured in marble,

Attitude captured in stone,

How many years must this beautiful woman

Stand in the square alone?

Where did the magic imprisoned

Meet its original birth?

Was there a girl coerced by an artist

Living somewhere on this earth?

Or was it a dream, just imagined

From longings that passed long ago?

I wish I knew her beginnings.

Is she shy of the people below?

Does she feel cold on her shoulders?

Was she once looked on with shame?

Who is this beautiful woman?

Do you remember her name?
