Strong

by Harvest McCampbell

he is just a baby

barely 24

he tells me

“i am young

i shouldn’t hurt like this”

i reply

“rickets causes

life long pain”

we have this bond

in common

i have grown

mellow

in the 20 years

between us

the pain is still with me

but the grief

has faded some

i remember standing

where he now stands

i know the walk

will make him

strong
