Lying Lazy

by Judi Armbruster

Lying lazy
Knowing the sun is, too;
This far North
This deep in my canyon.

Fall is the time when
Hummingbirds move
Elder berries ripen
Father Sun sleeps in.

The big mountain
Guarding my sleep
Hides the morning Sun
Until it's warm enough to get up.

The River smells like fish.
Will there be enough water to meet them?
To spawn and die
They will come anyway.

Lying lazy
There is a reason
For the struggle to live just to Die.

I just don't know why.
