Family Love

by Donna Wallace

In the corner of the room
Where he once laid his head
I found a note my son had written
and this is what it said:
"I'll never leave your side, dear mom
I love both you and dad
I never want to lose your love
Or ever make you sad.
I may still be a child yet
But I already know
Our family's love I won't forget
I'll be the last to go.
The love of family is what counts
It's what every heart longs for
Love is what life's all about
No son could love you more.....

I re-read the note—it's old and gray
and my son's no longer here
Without a word he went away
"Family love" just disappeared.
I pray that all is well with him
And that he loves again
I wonder just where we went wrong
If I could change what happened then.
The tears I shed, they never dry
But my smile has disappeared
I'll never smile again, I know
Until my son is near.
I cry a tear because he's gone
And I pray on bended knee
I wonder why my life went wrong
I wish that my son still loved me....
