Loss Revisited

by Cara Alson

The fortress crumbles
and tears wash over me
like a blue mire
burst from extended burial

I cannot close the portal
or slow the unending tide
sending spasms of pain
through my soul

Mourning not expressed
grew and festered
like a sore never healed

Why did I pick at it?
