Autumn Leaves

volume 6 number 7

Set Me Free
by Robin Oosterbaan Martinius

I've looked Death in the eye, and, victorious, lived another day
I've held my mother and watched the tenuous thread of life break
I will never be strong enough to bear knowing you are gone to stay
The loss of the one I held most dear is just too much for me to take
So, when I sleep this night, I will pretend you'll be back tomorrow
Blessed kiss of Morpheus take me where this loss can not reach me
Deaden, if but for the most brief moment, this heart's black sorrow
Until Death's sweet embrace can, at last, from this, set me free
