Closer Than a Kiss
by Bonnie Ryan-Gauthier

You seem so far away; at least in mind.
Your body rigid by my side tonight,
A stubborn silence; two hearts of a kind,
that each admit no fault in any fight.
Each time I can't remember why we stay,
some dark and final moment comes to pass.
Old visions find their way here as I lay,
they bother me, beleaguer and harass.
Yet, we have weathered storms far worse than these.
A score of rainy nights could tell the tale
I reach for you; the gale becomes a breeze.
We two withstand the storm; against it rail.

To be or not to be as near as this,
when you and I are closer than a kiss.
