Christmas Lights
by Sondra Ball

We went to Philadelphia
to see the Christmas lights.
We went to lots of stores
and walked around the streets,
admiring Christmas lights.

Christine clung tightly to my hand,
snuggled in my arms,
or rode her Daddy's back,
while Robert skipped and twirled
beneath the Christmas lights.

We ate dinner in a food court
ringed round with Christmas lights.
We ate burgers and fries,
cokes and chocolate sundaes
under the Christmas lights.

Then we drove back to New Jersey
away from Christmas lights,
to trim our Christmas tree.
None of us suspected
it was the last Christmas

for one of us.
