The Gift of Love Through Life

by Sheila Barrera

As I sit
watching the tubes,
monitoring the drip,
I think of all
who gave

Each imagined you,
I am sure
hoping
to save a life,
yours, mine maybe

No matter
whose life
was saved,
it's American
free and brave

Now your color,
again full-blooded,
no longer empty,
your smile forever
rich, lush

Evermore,
when I kiss you,
in some way I'll know
I'm kissing
all who gave.

[Deep thanks to all who donated blood, our eternal love and gratefulness goes out to you!]
