Autumn Leaves

volume 5 number 6

Dave at the Edge

by Russell Golata

Dave said he was tired of being oppressed
they were cutting off his Medicaid.

He was earning too much at minimum wage
3 days a week, someone's gonna Pay.

Where would the money for his medicine
come from if the cost was more then he's made?

Sometimes the clouds follow you around, you
never get a glimpse of sunshine, not even a ray.

The damn Bureaucrats always hold their ground,
with no conscience thoughts of who they've drowned.

I've gotten way past the point where
I just can't take anymore.

My Mother has been devoured by
Alzheimer's nasty roar.

I feel all rational thought start slipping away.

I have $17.35 left after I pay my bills.
There are 16 days left in this month
If I don't eat I'll surly get the chills
The drugs will numb me for the rest of the month
The hunger keeps me awake, so I smoke
4 packs a day to survive, that's no joke
The Doctors can't seem to find the reason
My lungs bleed no matter what the season.

The day is coming when I'll fight back
It's the Doctors that I'll first attack.

Then on to the offices of Medicare/Medicaid
I'll make them pay for the mess they've made.
