Memories

by JR Wolf

Someone is in my mind today
I tried to hide, to go away
But there she is walking about
Unpacking memories, sweeping dust out

She found the love I tried to hide
The pain I buried deep inside
Notes of all my burning desires,
Remnants of my passion's fires.
Boxes of wishes, dreams, and hopes
Sealed with tape and tied with ropes.
Placed in trunks with lock and chain
Never to see the light again

Here she is unpacking my heart
Opening books and breaking apart
All the bonds constricting this place
Warming my heart; freeing some space

I loved her so much, long ago
Forgotten times, no one would know
My pain of young summer romance
When I was bold and took a chance.

Now it's a dusty memory
My heart, my mind, and just old me
Love chanced and lost is still a win
Never to love is the greatest sin!
