Counting Prayer

by Dee Pinkney

one

Three little pigs
went to see their grandma
and their grandma asked them
where is your shadma
and the first one says, here
and the next one says, there
and the third little pig says
it's everywhere

two

There was a little horsie
sitting on the fence
and the mouse said to the horsie
won't you make some sense
so the horsie came down
put his feet on the ground
and the mouse ran off
without making a sound

three

Here is my heart
I show it to you
God made it Red
Man made it blue
My heart is a drum
It beats all the while
And then I can dance
And that is my style

four

I have a place to go
That no one else can see
And when I go to that place
I can be me

five

Sometimes I like to hug a tree
And look and look
And just be me

six

Rain rain come and play
I'm so glad you came today
Make the grass grow green and tall
I'm so thankful for it all

seven

Don't buy the lie
We don't really die
We'll all be together
In our dreams

eight

My cat is a photographer
I saw him one day
Sitting in the corner
Taking pictures by the way
My cat is a photographer
That no one else can see
My cat is a photographer
He took a picture of me

nine

If I had a gazillion dollars
I'd buy back all the world
And then I'd give it back to
All the boys and girls

ten

If a hundred thousand crows
Ate all the walnuts in the trees
There might not be any
Or there might still be plenty

eleven

My dog ate a cat
And my cat ate a rat
And I'm glad I didn't have to eat
Any of that

twelve

We looked at the rainbow
And we sang and sang and sang
And we told all our stories
And all the bells all rang

thirteen

The Indians caught a whale
And hauled him in from the sea
And then they all ate whale meat
And they were happy as can be

fourteen

I picked a flower
And I gave it to Mamé
And she said why'd you pick that flower
You should have left it grow free
So I took Mamé
And showed her where the flowers grow
And said, here are lots of flowers
But that one I picked for you!

fifteen

If I had the right song to sing
I could make it all new
If I had a rainbow in my hand
I'd give it to you

sixteen

They say I am a bad girl
with her finger in her nose
But I know a lovely secret
That nobody else knows

seventeen

There's a beautiful place in my backyard
It's a garden you should see
And with all the pretty flowers
The garden belongs to me
You should see my garden
When the flowers are blooming in spring
And all the bees and butterflies
And the wonderful scent they bring

eighteen

Blow wind blow
Make my hair blow free
Carry kisses to my beau
And bring his back to me

Carry me, oh wind
Out over the sea
Bear up my pretty bird
That happy I may be
Show me foreign places
Let me know their faces
Carry me oh wind
Out over the sea

nineteen

We don't mind the rain
We don't mind the rain
Cos it makes the buffalo lilly grow
We don't mind the rain

We don't mind the pain
We don't mind the pain
Cos we see the buffalo lilly grow
We don't mind the pain

We will live again
We will live again
Cos we see the buffalo lilly grow
So we shall live again

twenty

Bless all the little babies
And bless all the little one year olds
And bless all the little two year olds
And bless all the little three year olds
And bless all the little four year olds
And bless all the little five year olds
And bless all the little six year olds
And bless all the seven year olds
And bless all the eight year olds
And bless all the nine year olds
And bless all the ten year olds
And bless all the twelve year olds
And bless all the big teenagers
And bless the mammas and the daddies
And the grandmas and the grandpas
And God bless us everyone!
