She pushes her nose against me
at six o'clock in the
morning,
insisting on an early walk.
I am not one to disobey.
I quickly slip into my sweats,
put on my warmest coat and
scarf,
throw fur lined muffs around my ears,
and step out into the
darkness
of another winter morning,
the crisp snow snapping
underfoot.
She races underneath bushes,
sending their snow blankets
flying.
