Wittenburg

by Dee Pinkney

They have called it Babylon
They have called it Moloch
They have called it The Great Lie
They have called it America
Now I call it Wittenburg.

Wittenburg is the home of Faust.
Faust is the man
in the old tales from over the pond.
He traded his soul to the devil
in exchange for all that a man could want in life.
Signed his name in blood
Figured he could back out in the end...
He traded for knowledge and wealth and power
As so many do.
Others trade for love and peace
And think themselves the better for it.
And he said
what does it profit a man
to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
For his soul he has been given
The power of The Big Lie
