You Find Us Waiting

by Ed Latham

on a quiet desert night
no, they're not all quiet
but this one was,
calm and still

a night like this one
the moon just rising
we made our decision
quiet and still

fighting would not help
too many stood against us
we would all die
stiff and still

the only path before us
leading to survival
giving up our freedom
sad and still

so now you find us waiting
on a quiet desert night
telling stories of the old times
patient and still

and we hope this path we've chosen
leads us back to freedom
when our lives were all in balance
joyful, calm and still
