Snow Haiku

by Sondra Ball

the barren North Wind
blows a solitary flake
of snow on the street
light from the full moon
casts deep shadows on the lawn,
turning the snow blue
hand in hand we walk
into the last snow dropping
swirls of spring flowers
white snow encircles
the bare twigs in the orchards:
cold cherry blossoms
the first flakes of snow
mingle with the scarlet leaves
falling on her grave
hand in hand we walk
into the last snow dropping
swirls of spring flowers
Snow drifting in wind,
falling, blowing in cold air.
One piece: earth and sky.
the silence of snow
broken only by the sound
of oak logs burning
winter blasted rock
rising beside the river
the tiny snow drops
bright in the moonlight
distant snow-capped mountain peak
an infant's white face
deep snow on the lawn
in the flower shop window
hyacinths blooming
falling across snow
on this cloudy windy night
light from a window
