Flight of Days

by Sondra Ball

The days fly by,
dark against the sky,
in silence, while I,

in sudden fright,
try to hold the light
firm against the night.

I sing of warm seas,
fading melodies
of waves, and trees

growing on sand dunes
under bright silver moons.
I sing old tunes.

The songs end, while I
watch dark steal the sky.
The days fly by.
