by Sondra Ball

All is now silent,
where once the girl laughed loud at the wind,
and the boy laughed at the waves.

All is now still,
where once the boy danced on the sand,
and the girl danced by the dunes.

There is only wind
and empty surf lashing against
brown sand and rolling pebbles;

and my memories
of the girl laughing beside the sea,
the boy dancing on the sand.
