8 Years, This Life

by Oliver Loveday

As you went out the door
Running late
Dropping Maggie off at the bus
Then over the mountain to drop Brittany off at high school
To work, this day
I bid you good day and a happy anniversary

Looking back
This picture of us
You speaking your heart as I looked at the Earth
A circle, a prayer and a marriage stick
Us, like two scared kittens
Facing a future unlike our pasts
Leaving behind dashed and damaged dreams
Walking into more dreams and a reality no one could dream of

8 years, this life
Two scared kittens
We hold more than just our dreams now
Life together in this world
We continue to learn how to work as a team
We continue to learn that we aren't doomed to failure
The blessings of that day 8 years ago continues to hold me
My only regret
The only thing I would change if I could
Is me.

Thank you for sharing the dream.
