Who Else

by Ben Litwack

Who else can remove the fire in the eyes of the serpents of Satan
Who else can puff the smoke of life such as I
Who else can separate the boys from the men if not I
Who else can remove a thousand hands from arms
Who else is rhythmic enough to rhyme about farmers and maidens
I'm the water of floods
I'm also the first ray of light waking you from your sleep
I'm the wind in hurricanes
I'm also the flowers of peaceful meadows
I'm the uncontrollable fire that is I'm the heat of a summer's drought
I'm also the rain that follows
I'm the despair that is life
I'm also the ray of hope in the world of despair
I'm the thank you following a complement
I'm mid summer's love
I'm the shiny stuff on your books I'm the picture in lockers
I'm the note in class
I'm the risk that is gum
I'm the day that went well
Who else can chant like no others can if not me
Who else can and will admit what I feel
I'm the shiny pebbles in lakes
I'm the electricity that runs your life
I'm a comfy chair
I'm us
I'm we
I'm me
I'm I
I am
