Night Haiku

by Sondra Ball

Small candles flicker
with wind whipping through windows.
Loud thunder crashes!
cedar fire at dusk
prayers ascending in smoke
another new moon
The oak's leaves are still.
The moon slivers in the sky.
A mockingbird sings.
a long v of geese
red maple leaves float slowly
on the dark water
in my sleeping bag
lying on the rocky shore
I watch the bright stars
ocean waves roaring
I snuggle in my blanket
on the rocky shore
dim light through windows
wind fluttering through curtains
the aroma of rain
late autumn twilight
burial wreath on the door
rises in the wind
ripe pumpkins in fields
covered with an early frost
orange harvest moon
scented evening bath
sensuous bubbles breaking
on naked body
