I Told Myself

by Sondra Ball

I told myself a story when I was a child.
I sang myself a faerie tune; the words flew wild.
I sang I was a princess; I sang I was a queen.
I sang I was an elfin child — beautiful and lean.
I sang I was a dancer dancing in the sun;
I sang I was a moonchild when the day was done.

I sing and dance in starlight, with moonbeams shining bright.
I whirl and twirl and carol in shadows of the night.
I tell myself a story as if I am a child.
I sing myself a faerie tune; watch the words fly wild.

I sing I am a princess; I sing I am a queen.
I sing I am an elfin child — beautiful and lean.
I sing I am a dancer dancing in the sun;
I sing I am a moonchild when the day is done.
