The Way It's Meant to Be

by Dee Pinkney

There's a forest by the river
Where there grows a sacred Tree
Sends her roots up to the mountain
That's the way it's meant to be
And the Tree is good for healing
Taste her leaves and you will see
And the fruit is good for eating
That's the way it's meant to be

Didn't God promise long ago
That when the earth moved He'd hold us in his hand?
And didn't God promise long ago
That one day we would all understand?
And didn't God promise long ago
That every wound would be healed?
And didn't God promise long ago
That every secret would be revealed?

Didn't God promise long ago that
He'd bring us thru the thunder and the rain?
And didn't God promise long ago that
He'd bring us thru the fire and the pain?
And didn't God promise long ago that
we all would know the way?
And didn't God promise long ago what
we all see here in this day?

Join your hands, dance so free
This the way it's meant to be
Bring the light, bring the day
It was meant to be this way
Take the Truth in your hand
Now we all can understand
All will know, and all will see
This the way it's meant to be

Didn't God promise long ago that
The lion would lie down with the lamb?
And didn't God promise long ago
That one day we would all understand?
And didn't God promise long ago that the
Tree would bloom in every color that we see?
And didn't God promise long ago that
He would bring all back to where they're meant to be?
Didn't God promise long ago that
He would wipe every tear from our eye?
And didn't God promise long ago that
We would live even if we would die?
And didn't God promise long ago that
We all would see His face
And didn't God promise long ago what
We all see here in this place?

Join your hands, dance so free
This the way it's meant to be!
Bring the light, bring the day
It was meant to be this way!
Take your Love in your hand
Now we all can understand
All will know and all will see
This the way it's meant to be

There's a forest by the river
Where there grows a sacred Tree
Sends her roots up to the mountain
This the way it's meant to be
