Autumn Leaves

WHOOOOOOSH

by Ed Latham

Rising up like Lazarus flame platinum peaks of fury
Lost winos cringe in awe of hope the sparkling spires reach up
As if to clutch a piece of holy grace from heavens door
As the hosts descend in concert crying more … give us more

"More what?" I asked the shining angelic phantom of my dream
More worship, prayer, and humble supplication fool, it screamed
Inflation hits the cosmos bud, diluting all the booty
Give us faith and love unbridled we've a dearth of glowing beauty

The sheriff comes to tell me that tomorrow I must move

Lost in anti-convoluted crispy tallow what a bore
Wheezing heavily on knees that find no comfort on the floor
"Look to your maker" shouts the nimbus seraphim galore
And we all light pretty candles for the queen

Thrusting upward splitting atoms casting caution to the wind
Flashing sparks fly ever faster trailing glowing clouds of sin
"Paradise is stuffed with losers" someone screams into the din
Pancho rolls some pretty reefer for the king

And the streets are filled with people just like me

When comes this day of judgement crashing hollow on the race
When humankind is held to laws it never helped create
When the arrogance of pride appears to send us to our fate
Remember that the dinosaurs ruled here upon a time

Poison spewing rising floating falling spreading everywhere
Rocks dissolving, mountains melt, castigated intensity
Giant bubbles lunge for freedoms jerking reaching everywhere
And Jimmy fixes heroin for Jesus

But God is love and love is truth and truth is cold and final.
