Brightly Cold

by Ray Succre

Have your cup and drink in deep,

filling every space with cool joys,

a phantasm approach to tension,

the slow snack of relaxed pleasure.

Greater sadnesses come

to refine the mode summoned,

a dismay,

a heavier disappointment.

But have your cup

and drink upended;

holiday,

cheers and hellos,

holiday on and off impending,

month after month,

and a long, deep cup
