I Put On

by Sondra Ball

I put on a pot of coffee

and look out the open door.

Butterflies flit among the dogwood:

white and pink butterflies

circling white and pink blossoms.

I am surprised.

It is late April.

The air is still chilly.

The sun is just rising.

Yet these white and pink wings

flutter in this pink morning light.
