Fat Boy

by Donna Wallace

You saw the fat boy

his chin past his belt

you chose to tease him

How badly he felt.

You pointed and teased him

because you were cruel

You called him a loser

you labeled him "fool".

You took a fine boy

with promise and hope

but you stole his glory

'Till he could no longer cope.

You buried that fat boy

your taunts dug his grave

One more of your victims

that you could have saved.

Now you say you're sorry

you didn't want him to die

No, you just meant to break him

and his heart until he cried.

Your words all have power

And like a knife they can cut

He took your teasing

until he had enough.

Now you take your words back

apologize to the ground

But they hit their mark

now he's no longer around.

So please zip your lips

see love through your eyes

Soften your judgment

No more of your lies.

Just because he's different

He's bigger than you

He was made from the same mold

yet was someone special too.

You degraded that fat boy

until he hated himself

You broke and destroyed him

and laughed at yourself.

His grave's on your hands now

though you're not behind bars

But you know what happened

you know who you are.

The next boy will be different

maybe skinny or black

but you'll find a way to tease him

you'll be the monkey on his back.

Don't make this a lesson

it takes you too long to learn

Love all your brothers and

then you'll be loved in return.

You decide how you'll be remembered

Be it friend or be it foe

It's more pleasant to be a good friend

spreading kindness as you go.

Always think before you blurt out

something you'll be sorry for

Besides, love is what this life's about

and who could ever want for more …
