Trail of Tears

by Thomas Welch

Star bright, Star light

Where is my Love tonight?

Amongst the distant Stars

Up, up in Heaven above

Spiders spinning their silky webs

Birds they flutter much about

Elk shedding their Winter coats

Old Man Coyote resting nearby

I still search endlessly for my Love

Some say you have passed this way

Traveling amongst the others

Others who have lost their way

Who now tread on this Holy Land

Leaving behind a 'trail of tears.'

Gentle breeze blows thru this way

Reminding us who we are

And I still search for her

The One I lost long ago

Cherish moments cease to exist

Old Man Coyote he is nearby

In gullies to hide his presence

Listen to those who are mourning

Of those who died along the way

'Tiz a sad act of genocide innit?

Yah hey, I found you at last

Come here and will walk together

Chickasaw, Creek, Cherokee, Seminole, Choctaw

Indian Removal Act of 1830

Enactment passed by President Jackson
