Poverty and Our People

by Jamey W. Blake

There are many things as people that we think about each day,

And a lot of other things we count on this way.

There are so many people in our world we see.

Hundreds and thousands in poverty, indeed.

What can we share with our people in need?

What of their sickness and their wounds that bleed?

There is so much death and so much pain.

Watching our neighbors and friends in poverty's shame.

What could we do to help our people stay alive,

So when the world falls down we can help them survive?

Lend them a hand or a dollar more,

Help them feel like people again so they do not sleep on the floors.

I will do my best to help our people along,

For in the end they will appreciate our greatness in a song.
