Like Sisters Do

by Donna Willis

Sitting here and thinking how

My life has been much richer now

For all the ones I've chanced upon

And the tapestry of time we spun

There was a time when no one came

No friends to play in childhood game

And then you came to shelter me from the rain

And helped my adolescent pain

Yet in my inner heart I knew

Our Secrets rare and hearts were true

One day you would leave my side

of this i always tried to hide

Then one day I dropped my guard

I never had something hurt so much

In my heart you will always stay

My sister and my dearest friend

By ones and twos people gather near

Trying to Sooth my darkest fear

A tapestry in our life we weave

Your smile that lingers with your touch

Our youth need never let fade away

As long as I can dream then we can play

On Spring days i will talk to you

and hold you close like Sisters do
