Beware This Darkest of Nights!

by James Dean Chase

In the absence of Moonlight,

bright stars dot the sky;

'til clouds shroud their light

and thickening fog creeps in.

Beware this darkest of nights!

When childish pranks end,

fun gives way to frights!

Deadly rituals begin!

Keep your pets inside,

especially those all white,

that they be not sacrificed

to a demon guide.

"Let not your offspring

stay out after midnight strikes,

lest they be forever lost!";

A Banshee does sing.

Though a Witch, in time, saves nine,

in her ancient way;

some prefer to pray

for God's own protective sign.

For your soul, Satan will vie

'til Sun breaks darkness.

Good subdues Evil

and lets Truth dispel the lie.
