You Who Stand

by Sondra Ball

You who stand so silent by her small casket,
tearless before a grief beyond measuring:
know the hot summer suns, the winter snowfalls
will bring you succor.

Summer nights will once again reel with roses.
Winter nights will once again glow with lamplight.
Life is not alone in its endings. Even
our grief grows mortal.
